As da_no_1 says its becoming the Norm ..

Swindon Town manager Ben Garner said his players were "physically and verbally abused" after their League Two play-off semi-final defeat by Port Vale

The Robins were beaten 6-5 on penalties by Vale after the match ended 2-2 on aggregate after the two legs.

Vale fans swarmed on to the pitch after the last penalty and television footage appeared to show some in an altercation with Swindon players.

"There was physical abuse out there, there was verbal abuse," said Garner.

Also, Patrick Veira could be in hot water after Everton beat Palace the other night to beat relegation. Fans invaded the pitch, one of them was in his face flicking the vickies and he turned round and booted him, then squared up to several others who got involve. I don;t blame the players for this, in what other profession is it acceptable to go to your work and folk abuse, swear and assault you and you are expected to stand and do nothing?

If action is taken against Viera it would be a total joke.  Is this football authorities you're thinking of? Surely the police would classify this as self defence?

It was on the news at lunchtime that Merseyside Police have launched an investigation.

I absolutely don’t blame Viera for reacting the way he did but if the Crown were determined to prosecute I’d be amazed if self defence was a viable defence for him. He turned away from the incident and began walking away before swinging back around and kicking the fan who had his back turned by this point.
