Football Focus looking dodgy too now, both Alex Scott and Kelly Somers have said they're not doing it.

EDIT - in fact it's been pulled now.

Going well this, isn't it?

I've no paid it for years, since Saville, funding of the Tory Party, overpaid presenters and the news. License people been to my door a couple of times, told don't knock again. I'm not saying don't pay it though, would hate to get the good folks here into trouble.Β

I do not watch Match of the Day and do not believe in mixing football with politics. I will make 2 points here. 1. Garry Lineker signed a multi million pound deal which included an impartiality clause and 2. Many of the pundits got paid huge amounts to comment on the world Cup hosted by a country where Human Rights mean little.Β

He wasn’t mixing football with politics- he tweeted in his own time. Andrew Neil is Chairman of the Spectator and is active on Twitter. They had him presenting a political show. You would have thought Β that demonstrable impartiality would have been more important in that area. Lord Sugar is active on Twitter - in a right wing manner.Β The current Chairman of the BBC arranged a loan for Boris Johnson and is a Conservative activist / donor. The demand for impartiality looks awfully like a one way street.

Did it? Do you have a source for that? Seriously, I'd be interested to see Lineker's contract and how it's worded.Β

For what it's worth, the BBC Code of Conduct specifically mentions the example of a sports presenter expressing political views as a lower risk case (see attached image).

They did, and I'd have preferred them not to go at all. But I believe Lineker did at least speak out while he was there. And even if he didn't, not doing the right thing once does not mean you can't do it next time.

And while we're talking hypocrisy, the BBC's non-actions over not only Sugar and Neill, but also Lineker himself when he tweeted the below would suggest that their enforcement is somewhat selective.

Fair play to the BBC for putting Lineker in his place. About bloody time this jumped up charlatan understood what side his bread is buttered upon. Doesn't this serf like commoner understand his only job is to speak about football. He has no right to speak about things he knows nothing about. If he keeps speaking up on non football matters, send him to jail for a bloody long time.Β

Well said, Piracy. The BBC is a veritable bastion of impartiality and would never bow to pressure from any group of politicians. They should bring back the stocks in Trafalgar Square and put Lineker in them so that stout English yeomen could pelt his ugly pus with over ripe tomatoes (and maybe the odd spud.)

I made a bit of a small leap with impartiality clause based on the fact that the BBC found him guilty of breaching their Impartiality rules in Oct 22 for statements he made od SM about Liz Truss in Feb 22. Source - BBC archives 13 Oct 2022. I think I made a fair call on that.

As for hypocrisy - there is a lot of it about

None of this has anything to do with football. He is paid from the public purse he should not be using his fame etc as a platform for his opinion as that is breaking his contract with his employer and the public. Impartiality does seem to have a one way street with left sided opinions winning but that is my view,Β  politics and not football. I have an opinion on much about politics and illegal immigrants but those are for me and not the football public here. The Pars are my passion and it is the Pars that are important to me not multi millionaire moralists who abuse their unnatural position.

Not sure what you are laughing at but the BBC and SM got Boris sacked while Curry Gate went unscathed. Sturgeon did many wrong things but got clean away. Just my view though and again not football or the Pars. Just to be clear, I am a socialist from a mining family. I just have my own values.
